In the making of The Silence: Puanga we spent a large part of our time exploring our respective creation stories. As mentioned in earlier posts about the project, the key stories were the Ketes of Knowledge and aspects of Norse Mythology which focused on the world tree, the tree of life Yggdrasil.
We both set about hand-making a series of books. Maata made six books linking the stories to Puanga and I made nine books – one book with lots of drawings and the other eight explored the runes and their tree connections. We were very much aware of the resonances of numbers – especially numbers divisible by three for example – three ketes, three norns, nine worlds and 12 heavens…
